Tesla Sits on Bitcoin While Dabbling in DOGE Payments

Tesla has long been at the forefront of cryptocurrency adoption, so when Elon Musk proclaimed his love for Dogecoin in early 2021, Tesla fans were excited to see how the company would show its support. However, while Musk may have warmed hearts effusively endorsing the meme-filled cryptocurrency, Tesla still remains firmly planted on Bitcoin.

Electric Cars, Electric Currency?

Tesla has made it clear that for now Bitcoin will remain the official cryptocurrency of the company. The team has no plans to invest in any other coin, which came as a disappointment to some people hoping the company might make a move into the Dogecoin market.

But fear not! Tesla still have a special place in their hearts for Dogecoin. To show their appreciation for the meme-inspired cryptocurrency, Tesla had recently announced that some of its car-charging stations will accept payments in DOGE.

Dogecoin Payments Hit the Road

The Tesla team had said that a handful of their Superchargers will accept payment exclusively in Dogecoin. “We think this is a great show of appreciation for what Dogecoin stands for – democratizing access to the future of payments,” said Musk.

The Superchargers that accept Dogecoin are spread out across the country, so owners of the popular electric cars don’t have to travel too far to experience a true “Dogecoin rush”.

The Future of Cryptocurrencies at Tesla

Although Tesla has made it clear that Bitcoin will remain the company’s official cryptocurrency, it has also expressed that it may diversify into other coins in the future.

In the meantime, the team does have some plans for encouraging people to use Dogecoin for payments. Tesla will be sponsoring special “Dogecoin Rush” events at some of their Supercharger stations, where buyers can earn significant discounts on their Tesla purchases if they pay using the popular cryptocurrency.

So, while Tesla won’t be investing in Dogecoin anytime soon, they are still showing their appreciation in other ways. Perhaps in the future, we may even see Dogecoin featured more prominently in the Tesla payment system.

That’s all for now, folks. Happy doge-journeys!
